Kang-Xi period ( 1662-1722 )
The scene is taken from the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" , a story during the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty circa 200 AD ( but written in the XIV th century ) .
The center character should be the General Tchou-Ko lifting a bronze tripod in front an audience presided by the hero Emperor Lieou Pei .
The tripod is a symbol : the three feet like the 3 Kindoms , the three main characters ( Lieou Pei , Tchou-Ko and Ts’ao Ts’ao the evil ) , and also the cosmic dimension : the Man between the Heaven and the Earth .
